Releasing Energy Cysts In Therapeutic Practice
Last week, we introduced the concept of energy cysts and how they form in our bodies over time. Remember that traumatic events, no matter how small they may seem to us at the time, contain a multitude of energy (both physical and emotional) that may leave behind a fingerprint if we are unable to fully process and release them. Our physical bodies are incredibly resilient and do their best to contain this pocket of chaotic energy, often by walling it off in a cyst, so that we can go on living our lives. Over time, these disturbances in our natural vibration may cause other areas to shift and compensate, often leading to pain, discomfort, and illness. Luckily, in the hands of a trained CranioSacral therapist or bodyworker, these energy cysts can be safely and lovingly released using a technique called SomatoEmotional Release ®. These cysts can be detected even before you notice any symptoms, although many people seek the expert touch of a therapist after they’re already in some level of distress. Using the metaphor we employed last time, energy cysts are like rocks in the river of our body’s natural energy flow. They cause ripples and turbulence in the flow, and this is one of the main things I look for when a client gets on my table.
Our bodies are fantastically vibrant electrical systems, and we can feel this energy flowing throughout our limbs and torso, and even feel it resonate above our skin. When we are balanced, aligned, and healthy, this flow is smooth and steady, but where there are energy cysts, the flow will be uneven, weak, or feel agitated in some way. As a therapist, my hope for all of my clients is to find a sense of ease and balance, and removing energy cysts is one of the ways that I can help facilitate that shift. But like with most holistic modalities, CranioSacral therapy is not about forcing the body in any way. I am simply there to provide support and hold space for my client’s body to heal itself.
We all contain the wisdom we need in order to heal ourselves fully, but too often we get caught up in our own stories and limitations, and we get stuck. This is where we can benefit from working with a therapist, especially one trained to detect the subtle changes in the craniosacral rhythm and the delicate shifts in the energetic body. My role as a therapist is to dialogue with your body, to encourage you to release what no longer serves you, and to provide a kind of “escape route” for the disorganized energy caught in these cysts. Your body already knows how to heal, but it may need a helping hand to get things started!
During an energy cyst release, you may notice certain emotions, words, or images pop up, and you may even feel your body change positions. This is one of the ways that I can tell that I am working in the right spot, because cysts contain so much energy and information, and this is your own body’s way of communicating to you that it wants to let go of something in that area. In some cases, the safe space created by your therapist may be all it takes for your body to spontaneously release this unhelpful energy. Other times, it may take some dialoguing, visualization, or support from the spiritual realm in order to assure your body that it is safe to release the cyst. No matter how it comes about, SomatoEmotional Release ® is a natural process that our bodies do all the time- we just may need a little extra help when it comes to the larger traumas in life.
If you feel like you could benefit from this kind of therapy, I would love to work with you! We can work together to release any energy cysts that you are holding on to, and put you back on the path to profound, lasting wellness.
